Sales manager
Position SummaryThe Sales Managers major job responsibility is to generate room night bookings in the following markets; Southeast Associations, Sports, and Reunions. Promotional activities include trade shows, sales missions and Fam trips to promote Greater Richmond as a convention and meeting destination. The Sales Manager also cultivates relationships with the bureaus stakeholders from hotels, the convention center, attractions, and professional and community organizations.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Generate confirmed room night bookings:
- Identify and develop Southeast Associations, Sports, and Reunion clients through a variety of resources, including networking and research through industry databases suchas ASAE, PCMA and DMAI MINT.
- Implement sales action plans through consistent and organized routine of contact and follow-up with meeting planners.
- Attend suitable trade shows;
- Conduct sales missions to prime markets (requires research to identify potential business);
- Arrange Fam trips to promote the destination (again, requires research to identify target business);
- Organize site visits to facilitate the closing of deals between meeting planners, hoteliers and, where appropriate, convention centers;
- Organize and coordinate direct mailing and emailing campaigns.
- Maintain ongoing contact with hotel management for developing solid, professional relationships that will facilitate booking business;
- Participate in the activities of professional associations will result in personal and professional development while developing networking relationships that will benefit the generation of business.
- Participate in community activities creates visibility for the bureau while developing strong identification with the community for the sales manager.
- Ongoing and regular communications with stakeholders representing different segments of the community;
- Participation on committees, involving organizing events, attending meetings and making presentations.
The Sales Manager works to deliver the highest quality customer service by
- Providing timely and efficient support to meeting planners and hoteliers;
- Focusing on customers needs and delivering on commitments;
- Demonstrating responsiveness to customers through courtesy, helpfulness, timeliness and providing accurate, relevant information in response to requests;
- Demonstrating professionalism and competence, and communicating effectively.
- Provide regular activity and other reports to management.
- Maintain computerized database and other records in an organized and up to date manner.
- Support and follow-up on marketing promotional activities which impact convention sales.
Four-year degree
Minimum of three years experience with a CVB, hotel or in the hospitality industry

InTernship program
RMCVB welcomes all applicants for internships and believes that internships are an important step in preparing students for careers in the travel and tourism industry. Our internship program is geared toward:
- College juniors, seniors and graduate-level students working for earned academic credits
- Tourism, Parks & Recreation, Hospitality/Travel fields
- Communication and and PR fields
The goal of RMCVB's internship program is to apply classroom theories, concepts and prior experience in a practical professional environment. Interns will be given the opportunity to learn by working and observing in the hospitality industry and can expect to:
- study, observe and participate in the policies and practices of the organization
- attend board and staff meetings
- gain overall understanding of the organization (daily operation) in all departments
- gain skills in face-to-face leadership setting
- ability to plan and conduct appropriate hospitality activities for organization
- work closely with staff members who are responsible for various facets of the organization
- visit other agencies and shadow CEO and other department heads at meetings
