Customized RSS Feeds

Wouldn't it be great to have the latest news, promotions and events from the Richmond Region delivered directly to you? Well now you can, thanks to RSS, a new service from Visit.Richmond.com!

What is RSS?

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication", and it allows you to identify the Visit.Richmond.com content you like and have it delivered directly to you. It takes the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by showing you the very latest information that you are interested in.

Not all websites currently provide RSS, but it is growing rapidly in popularity and many others, including the BBC, The New York Times, CNN and Richmond.com provide it.

How do I start using Visit.Richmond.com Customized RSS feeds?

The first thing you need is something called a news or feed reader (sometimes called a news aggregator). There is a wide range of news readers available, and new versions are appearing all the time. Many of these are free, and even the commercial versions are quite inexpensive. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to take this into account when you make your choice.  You can click here to conduct a Google search for available free RSS feed readers. Please be aware that the Richmond Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau and Visit.Richmond.com cannot provide any technical support for the various RSS feed readers.

Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want.   To do so, complete our simple RSS sign-up form and let us know when you are coming to the Richmond Region, the purpose of your trip and the types of information you would like to receive.  Upon completing the the form, a customized URL will be created for your RSS feed.  Simply copy and paste the URL into your news reader to start receiving the lastest Richmond Region content.

After your trip or if you wish to stop receiving the updates, simply remove the URL from your RSS news reader.  You can always return to Visit.Richmond.com and request a new customized RSS feed.
